19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from that period of that year.

The win also means he has won 21 titles at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an better serve.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
